The Spring 2025 STAR Faculty Panel will focus on a single topic of discussion – and it’s a big one.
“Artificial Intelligence: Friend or Foe?" will be the topic when this semester’s STAR Faculty gather for a public discussion on Tuesday, March 11, in the Hawkins Lounge of the Dahlstrom Student Center.
The Spring 2025 STAR panel, which was selected by the College’s Professional Standards Committee (PSC), consists of Clinical Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy Dr. Cassie Hey ’04 M’07, Associate Professor of English Dr. Steven Kapica, and Associate Provost and Associate Professor of Spanish Dr. Malia Spofford-Xavier.
The panelists were chosen after being recognized by their peers for excellence in instruction and academic achievement.
During the one-hour discussion, they’ll share their professional experiences with emerging AI technology, as well as best practices as they define them. Audience members will also have the opportunity to submit questions.
“The PSC chose the topic of Artificial Intelligence for this semester's panel because AI is becoming increasingly more relevant to faculty and students,” said Professor of History Dr. Christopher Leahy, who chairs the committee. “While we recognize that there is not time during the panel discussion to cover every aspect of AI in the educational setting, we are confident that by sharing their experiences with AI, the panelists will move the conversation forward and offer helpful insights.”
The discussion will be moderated by Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Heather Maldonado and the entire College community is encouraged to attend.
